“Widen your source of income”, Journalists advised.


The Editor in Chief of Peace Fm has urged journalists to be dynamic and venture into other career opportunities in order to equip themselves financially.

Speaking to Nana Poku Piesie on Sunyani  based Moonlite FM , Mr Kwasi Agyemang noted many journalists have restricted themselves to only their employment for survival of which he describes as not enough to suffice them.

He made this comment when he was speaking to the Media Village project, a housing projects for member of the Ghana journalist association.

“The housing project is to give relief to journalists so that after retirement they won’t find themselves wanting or perching at undeserved places. I would want to encourage my colleague journalists to widen their source of income so that they don’t over depend on a single source” Mr. Agyemang advised.

He added, irrespective  of his position and salary at Despite Group, He owns two pharmacy shops and a media consultancy firm.

The Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) in 2018 cut sod for the construction of affordable houses for journalists at Pampaso, near Nsawam in the Eastern Region.

The housing project, which is in partnership with KOANS Building Solutions, a real estate company in Ghana, involves the initial building of 100 affordable houses for GJA members.

Touching on the current spate of attacks on journalists, the national President of the Ghana Journalists Association, Dr Roland Affail Monney expressed much worry about the phenomenon. He wants government, cooperate bodies and the general public to see the media as a partner of development and accord them the necessary cooperation.

Dr Monney in another breath cautioned members of the inky fraternity to on their part remain as professional as possible to project the prestige and pride of the enviable profession.

“It is very disheartening that such incidents of atrocities are been netted out onto Ghanaian journalists. It is quite regrettable Ghana has lost its enviable number one position as the best media friendly country to third. Inasmuch as that, I would want to call on colleague journalists to remain resolute to the ethics of this profession. This will ensure coexistence among the citizens and the media to propel the growth of our country” the former director of of radio at the Ghana Broadcasting Cooperation admonished.

They were speaking to Nana Poku Piesie on Moonlite Fm on the backdrop of the maiden edition of the Brong Ahafo Ghana Journalists Association awards on 27th July, 2019 in Sunyani.

The Regional Chairman of the Association, Larry Paa Kwesi Moses hinted the award scheme promises to award the creme de la creme since the members of the awards committee did a yeoman’s job.

“I will commend practioners in this region for all the tremendous work done all these years, despite all challenges. People who won awards won it on merit and by dint of hard work. We hope to have
A blissful night” Paa Kwesi hinted.
