ADOPT TECHNOLOGY IN YOU LINE OF WORK - MRS AFEKU URGES GTA

The Minister of Tourism Culture and Creative arts has entreated the staff of of Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA)  and other industry players to embrace the new trend of technology their line of duty to enhance efficiency.

Mrs. Catherine Ablema Afeku in addressing a biennial Senior Staff Conference in Sunyani applauded the mesmerizing roles played by the GTA in the tourism sector within the 10 months under President Akuffo Addo regime. She said Ghana has enormous tourist attraction centers that deserve international attention and patronage than some of the so-called countries which are on top of the tourism map.

She therefore called on the industry players to develop passion for the work as well as adopting a dynamic culture and the excellent teamwork which will empower the workforce of the industry.

The vibrant minister bemoaned on the inability of the tourism sector to amass both massive revenue and reputation across the globe. She believes that with the adoption of technology the authority and the he sector will in a faster pace elevate to the pinnacle of the world tourism charts.

"One of the critical things to think about is the use of technology as a means to leap frog our competitors in the Sub Saharan Africa and it syncs into the scope of GTA. The advancement of a single window destination, the feasibility studies as the total commitment of entire GTA workers will make or break us as a preferred destination and the sector seeks to achieve but all these can be realised smoothly if we adopt technology" the Evalue-Gwira-Ajomoro legislator insisted.

Mrs. Afeku opined that the sector has attained a medium of success within the first ten months under her auspices but more is desirable of her from the Nana Addo led administration in the next two years.

Mr. Akwasi Agyemang, the CEO of the authority hinted that upon his ascension to the office this year, the authority was bedeviled with financial constraints, disunity among agencies under the ministry and carelessness of some staff at the authority, yet by the grace of God  and the wielded powers of some supportive staff, he is on the path of turning the old tables of the authority around to attain the needed heights.

Mr. Agyemang also that the authority in collaboration with the Ghana Police Service are relentlessly poised to combat the menace of sex parties and prostitution at brothels which are at variance with our customs, tradition and constitution.

"Some of these acts are criminal, hence we are collaborating with the Ghana Police Service to raid these places. It is our mandate as GTA to uplift public morality at hospitality places. We have arranged some of these culprits before the law court to serve as a deterrent to others" the Tulane University trained and former MD of Global Media Alliance asserted.

The theme of the conference was "Achieving tourism excellence, the role of  senior staff".
