The Municipal Chief Executive of Berekum Mr Kofi Adjei has declared his commitment to ensure peace and massive infrustrucural development in his municipality.

In an exclusive interview with KkbPortal, Mr. Adjei disclosed that his priority is to see to it that Berekum gets proper road network within the central business district and other linking roads to it's rural communities

"My main priority is to ensure that all the principal streets within the CBS are tarred as well as roads that link us  to our rural communities. The needed arrangements to provide accommodation for the Department of Urban Roads are fatherly advanced with my Member of Parliament, Dr. Kwabena Twum Nuamah" he noted.

Mr. Adjei also noted that he has a welcoming heart and arms to work effectively everyone who has a productive and developmental opinion to help him in the discharge of his duty without any partisan discrimination as he believes that nation building dwells on concencus.

"I am ready to accept cronstrutive criticism from both members of my party and the opposition, because effective and responsible opposition yields good governance" he opined

The former Presiding Member of the Assembly under the erstwhile Kuffour administration applauded the President Akuffo Addo led administration for the implementation of the free senior high School policy and admonished students to take advantage of the policy and learn hard to come out with flying colours. He also pleaded with parents to also accord technical and vocational education the needed attention to fuel the industrialization agenda of the country.

"Despite the free SHS policy, parents should acknowledge that not all their children will enroll in white-collar jobs, technical and vocational jobs also pays hence they should encourage their wards who prefer artisanship to take it serious" Mr. Adjei pleaded with parents.

The former municipal chairman of the New Patriotic Party invoked the attention of the central government to come and establish a canary factory for his people under the One district One factory policy.

"I will be pleased with a canary factory because my municipality has an arable land for the cultivation of crops like cashew, maize and vegetables. Berekum is now turning into a tomato-growing-hub especially in Fetentaa, hence I will be glad if we get a canary here" he said.

Mr. Adjei admitted that due to lack of job opportunities in the area most of the youth have started abusing drugs while others have engaged in Cyber Crime "Sakawa".  He observed that his outfit has mounted a plan that will deal with the abusive drug sales joints within the shortest possible time to curb the menace.  On the issue of Sakawa, he posited that his office is collaborating with the MUSEC and the appropriate security quarters to map up strategic plans to combat such a denigrating vice.

"I am aware of government's intention to establish  a Cyber Crime Security Center which  will eradicate cyber crime in the country, and my office will do everything possible to ensure that our municipality becomes Cyber Crime free as we create enough jobs for the youth" he said.

On the long pending chieftaincy  dispute between the incumbent chief Daasebre Dr. Amankona Diawuo and other members of the kingmakers from the Kontre and Gyaase factions, he called on them to maintain peace and order as the case awaits a Supreme Court ruling in December. He also entreated the residents to remain decorous ahead of the up coming Kwafie Festival which is scheduled for November this year to project the cultural heritage of the people of Berekum.

In conclusion Mr. Adjei debunked the widespread of rumours that the indigenes of Berekum are at war with the Fulani herdsman who have settled with their grazing cattle at the northern part of the municipality which includes Kotaa, Domeabra, Akrofro and the likes.

"There is absolute peace and calm at home. Negotiations have advanced where 3 out of the 4 groups of the Fulani herdsman have left our lands. The last group is preparing to leave, therefore I will like to call on all Berekum indigenes who have intentions to return home or invest in our town to do so without any fear and panic" the Chief Executive assured the public.

The Municipal Chief Executive before his appointment by President Akuffo Addo was the municipal chairman of the New Patriotic Party in Berekum.
