The Executive Director of the EOHOPE Foundation,  Nana Afia Siraa Ababio III has expressed her worries on the rise of child marriages in the country, calling for a swift intervention to the canker from law enforcement agencies.

She was Speaking to Berekumcity.com Thursday morning as part of the observation of International Child Protection Day.
"The rate at which parents and guardians give out their teenage girls out for marriage heartlessly is very appalling. This barbaric act against the innocent girls has a very gloomy influence on the future of our young girls, quite apart from its infringement on thier rights" she said.

Child protection Day is celebrated on 1st June every year since 1950 to  protect children from violence, exploitation, abuse and neglect across the world.

The Police Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) in the Brong Ahafo Region in February  issued a battle cry against the surge in child marriages in some parts of the region.

Tain, Atebubu and Nkoranza Districts were the areas mentioned as the worst affected areas.

But Nana Ababio III who was passionate about the development appealed to parents to desist from the scrupulous act no matter what the circumstance the may be facing to avert the bad effects of teenage marriage.
