BRONG AHAFO REGION HIT BY INVASION OF ARMYWORMS - DR CYRIL QUIST
     
The regional director of the Ministry of Food and Agriculture, Dr. Cyril Quist has confirmed that Brong Ahafo has also been hit by the nationwide invasion of armyworms in vast shroud of maize farms.

In an interview with Kofi Oppong Asamoah on Sunyani based private radio station Sky Fm, Dr Quist indicated some of the affected parts in the region are Kintampo, Wenchi, Techiman and Sunyani municipal

Dr Quist said his outfit has commenced educating farmers on the signs and symptoms of the worms and entreated them to report any signs immediately to help curtail widespread of the disease in their farms and others. They have also started a mass spraying exercise in the affected farms to to save it from total destruction.

The African armyworm (Spodoptera exempta) is an African moth. It is a very deleterious pest, capable of destroying entire crops in a matter of weeks. The larvae feed on cereal crops(corn, rice, wheat, millet,  and sorghum), sugar cane, and occasionally on coconut.

He added that due to the herculean nature of this fight, MMDAS should assist them in the provision of logistics needed for the exercise.
