A DELAY IN CONFIRMING AN MMDCE IS A DELAY IN DEVELOPMENT - Dr.  ODURO OSAE

Dr. Eric Oduro Osae,  a local government expert has called on assembly members to appreciate the fact that,  the confirmation of MMDCE nominees is a catalyst for development in their constituencies.

Dr. Osae bemoaned on the refusal of some MMDAs failure to confirm their chief executive’s nominees which often lead to uproars.

The dean of Graduate Studies of the Institute of Local Government Studies said that most of the government funds used for developmental projects can only be granted to an assembly when there is a chief executive officer.  He therefore entreated assembly members to bury their differences and do themselves and their constituents a favor of confirming these nominees.

Dr. Osae noted that assembly members, both appointed and elected representatives are trustees of their people hecnce they should not serve their personal selfish interests.

On the incidence where some assembly members take bribes from government nominees, Dr. Oduro Osae observed that there is the need for an amendment in the local governance law where any nominee indulged in offering bribe to assembly member for confirmation should be automatically disqualified
